The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recently released A Structured Evidence Review to Identify Treatment Needs of Justice-Involved Veterans and Associated Psychological Interventions, a report on the behavioral health needs of veterans involved in the criminal justice system. The topic areas addressed in the report include treatment needs of justice-involved veterans, assessment tools to identify treatment needs and recidivism risk, and evidence-based practices. The report particularly focuses on history of trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, the needs of female veterans, the needs of veterans ages 55 and older, and the incidence of particular crimes among veterans, including drug offenses and violent crimes.
