Findings and discussion from this study cover: what is working well and what needs to be changed to be more gender-responsive—the “college dorm” set up, a relational community, a connection to families and children, work assignments, programs and activities, planning for life after incarceration, services (i.e., medical, dental, and mental health), and the staff (women need to feel mutual respect, dignity, and safety), whether there are inconsistencies between policies and practices—the women need better communication about what is expected from them), and whether women feel that their time spent at the Women’s Center has been more or less beneficial than what they may have experienced in other correctional environments.
